Most people who know me are aware of my love of phones – dating all the way back to the StarTac, I always had a thing for the latest phones…some of my other favs were my Nokia 8080 and even my pre-release overseas RAZR with Kanji for alphanumerics so I couldn’t text people LOL. Anyways, we were discussing the latest run of BB’s (Storm/Bold – etc) and I wanted to throw in my 2 cents on each phone since I rock a few and had my hands on a few today:

First off – the Blackerry Bold: Okay, seriously – this thing is an 8800 with all the curve functions. The faux leather back is a bit cheesy, but the thing feels solid and just straight up better than the curve. The screen is AMAZING – even better than the Storm and better than the iPhone. New menu is nice, video and camera is nice – a great “Corporate” BB IMO…think of this as the Bentley of Blackberry’s.
Thumbs up on fit and finish, screen quality and look.
Thumbs down on price – $299 / Pass
Overall rating – 7 (down strictly because of price)

Current phones in use – iPhone / iPhone 3G / BB8800 / BBCurve:
I think most of us know the routine on these guys as the majority of our group is on one or the other – just some quick opinions:
iPhone / iPhone 3G – still the king IMO. Battery power would be my one gripe. For all the haters, it’s all good- you guys gotta do your thing too.
BB8800 = needs a friggin camera…Bold is a nice upgrade, but not at $299
BB Curve = nice phone with great apps/options…but feels crazy cheap.

Finally, the Blackberry Storm:
First off, the phone feels nice – definitely the nicest $199 “smart” phone out there IMO. The OS was VERY laggy, holy cow – my buddy and I went through a bunch of the menus and the delay was pretty embarrassing considering the multitude of apps within it. Our telecom guy stated this was directly due to the processor and that he doesn’t believe an OS update will help much. Needless to say, if it wasn’t for the OS lag, this would be a GREAT phone. The full screen press down didn’t bother me as much as I thought, but it does take some time getting used to if you’re accustomed to using a normal blackberry. (Each key-in requires a full screen push so it’s not nearly as fast as typing on a normal BB or even on an iPhone). The video quality was awesome…on par if not better than the iPhone IMO.
Thumbs up on price, quality and cool factor. PRICE in particular, $199 – you gotta be kidding me.
Thumbs way down on lag and full screen pushdown.
Overall rating – 7 (if they speed this sucker up somehow, I’d actually consider getting one for work LOL)
