Porsche World Roadshow – California Speedway

Was invited to this event this past weekend which was a blast. I’ve had 3 Porsche’s so it’s nice to see that they “give back” to their customers every so often, maybe trying to get me back to the brand?! LOL. I’ve attended a similar event for BMW (twice) and anytime you get to beat on cars that aren’t yours, on a track – with specialists, it’s bound to be a good time.

Once again all pics were taken via iPhone other than the “official” ones taken by Porsche for the media portion of the site. There was also a section where they gave us a camera and asked us to take pics which were automatically uploaded which was pretty cool.

Welcome tent, a bunch of the latest models outside (no 918- boo LOL) – A/C blasting inside which was helpful as it was pushing 100 deg outside plus incoming showers LOL. Yellow 991 was a Porsche Exclusive build.

Nice lineup – aside from the Cayman R, we drove each of these models.

Got my badge and grabbed a snack inside.

They had a few #forza4 setups for entertainment – John P and the boys would be happy with the Forza love.

They had a Panamera GTS setup inside along with a mini Porsche Design store.

Track Talk seating area.

Discussion area – they joked about a timeshare presentation which made a bunch of us laugh…

The day consisted of three events. One on the track, one on the autocross and a technology event that you could test acceleration between a hybrid and “normal” Porsche. All of the pics I took were from the track event, which was the most fun (although all three were exciting in their own way)

Walking out to the track and you see a rack full of helmets – definitely a good sign haha.

Pic courtesy of Porsche North America – that’s me in the drivers seat of the Panamera GTS. For this event, you drive the GTS, the 991 Carrera and the 991 Carrera S around the track back to back, following an instructor. The faster your group goes, the faster the instructor will drive. 🙂

I was directly behind the instructor – fun for me, fun for my passenger, not so good for the people behind LOL.

Joking around in the 991 C2S LOL.

Apparently I was a bit “too fast” on the track, the instructor car and I had to actually stop about halfway thru the track (118MPH on the straight if I remember correctly) – I was fastest in the Carrera S (even got a little squirrely towards the end), but the GTS felt the most planted to me. Regardless, the PDK was amazing in all the cars – faster than the DCT (BMW), much sportier but would be a challenge to see if it was as “smooth” in city driving.

Next up was the autocross in the new 2013 Boxster S.

A very fun car, has the PDK – mini CGT looks. I don’t think this will be looked at as the “can’t afford a 911” or “girlie” version of Porsche anymore. We had the opportunity to drive a full autocross (2 laps) for this event – my instructor felt uber-comfortable since he let me take a 3rd lap LOL! Fastest I’ve driven on a autocross course for sure.

No pics of the last “technology” event where we drove a hybrid next to a standard motor back to back. I was really surprised of the acceleration “feel” and would def. consider a hybrid Porsche (esp since we have a Prius daily beater) in the future. Hybrid economy with the same Porsche Performance – not bad. They also had Wired magazine onsite loaning us DSLR’s to take our own pics that automatically upload pics, here’s the one I took.

If you happen to get an invitation to the Porsche World Roadshow I would definitely suggest you attend, great opportunity to test cars in an environment that you wouldn’t be able to normally. The event is designed to bring people either back/to the Porsche brand and I’d have to say that it is has definitely put some extra insight into my next vehicle.

I Threw Suicides On The Private Jet…

A few weeks back an old friend of mine hit me up to assist with a commercial he was producing for a private aircraft charter – who’s gonna say no to that? LOL. I remember back when he was doing BMW trailers for our meets in 2001 and now he’s working with Footlocker, LeBron (yeah, LOL) and some other high profile companies – so crazy and proud of him, and the work speaks for itself.

NOTE: All pics were taken with my iPhone out of respect for the cinematographer and photogs there, I didn’t want to be that dude who brings in his full gear LOL.

Call time was early – I’m a morning person so it wasn’t that big of a deal.

When I pulled in I had noticed a sweet white Aventador (provided by B&W rent a car) – even though I’d been to the pre-release of the car (before Geneva) and have seen it at least a hundred times since, it still gets me.

I entered into the lobby and was greeted by Brian and his staff. Man these guys have it together – breakfast, organization, details, everything to a tee. A very family atmosphere as well, which is awesome considering when you’re on a shoot it’s long hours and lots of people working together.

We hit the main hangar and checked out the plane that was scheduled for use – a pretty sick G4.

Even sicker when you pair it up with the Aventador in front of it with the sun rising behind.

I noticed the lift was up on the Aventador so we handled that pretty quickly, Brian joked that I’d be a great automotive consultant for films…HMMMMM…call me, maybe? hahahaha.

Directors perspective, Brian doing his producer thing (left) along with Paul (Director) on the right.

A lot was going on all at once, time is precious as well as lighting so it’s not unusual to see a lot of action in one area.

Another shot “behind” the scenes LOL.

RED Camera! 🙂 Johnny’s (Cinematographer/Director of Photography) personal tool I believe, this thing is awesome – you can either buy this or a fully loaded E92 ///M3 LOL. We all know it’s not the scalpel, it’s the surgeon – but I’m sure it helps when you have the coolest digital scalpel I’ve ever seen LOL! Along with awesome tools, Johnny and the crew re-iterated my belief that lighting is everything when it comes to images.

LJ:DIT – handling backups, transferring files on the fly during the shoot (Digital Imaging Technician) Techies note: He uses Lacie drives for backups.

View from inside the G4 – Big Riff:1st AD holding it down, apparently he was on a Justin Beiber shoot the day before. He was sincerely funny, kept everything moving while keeping things light – such a cool cat.

Had to take this shot of course LOL! For those that really KNOW me, you know I wouldn’t be down for this anyways LOL.
“I’m talking rich pal, rich enough to fly in your own jet, rich enough not to waste time, 50-100 million, a player Bud — or nothing.” – Gordon Gecko

Last shot of the day for me – crazy hot on the tarmac LOL. *Stark Industries cover shot LOL!

Before I bailed, Brian asked if I wanted to take a quick pic in place of one of the male models, I shy’d away at first (LOL) but then I see Brian talk to Paul/Johnny and next thing I hear is “Ok, John – swap with Albert – Albert you’re in” LOL!!! I didn’t have sunglasses so Paul was kind enough to lend me his, checkout that steez!! hahaha. If you can’t laugh at yourself, who can you laugh at right? Pic courtesy of Johnny/Bri/Paul

I’ve had the fortune of being involved with some pretty awesome projects in my life which has allowed me to meet some sincerely awesome people as a result. Brian is definitely one of them- thanks for a good time man. Special thanks go out to Bri, Paul, Johnny, Big Riff, Amy, LJ and everyone who assisted that day. The amount of detail, hard work and execution you guys bring make me appreciate the film industry so much more, I’ll def stay for the credits from now on 🙂

Unreleased…

Since I’ve been posting videos as of late, here’s an oldie but goodie – first time for public consumption LOL.

Cars & Coffee 8.26.12 – 2013 Aston Martin Vanquish shows up…

Great day at C&C today, Aston Martin brought out their newly designed Vanquish – which I must say is absolutely gorgeous. There are some definite Jaquar influence still here and there, but this is a fine example of what Aston does so well.

Wow.

Yes.

Junk in the trunk.

Curves.

Only those that have driven an Aston will know, the needles on the instrument panel run opposite so it’s a trip to watch the RPM’s spin up.

Gotta have a big heart. <3

Carbon Fiber “layed” body double skeleton, love how companies are bringing these out now (McLaren did this when they brought out the MP4-12C to Irvine the first time as well)

Cutout showing the exhaust innards, bypass valves and the like. Amazing English craftsmanship.

I hated this shot, particularly because it looks like a midget is peeing in the reflection, but it’s the only one that also shows the amazing quality of the Carbon Fiber.

V12 Vantage. The angry little bro.

GMG World Racing Challenge GT3-RS, all track miles 3K if I recall correctly…checkout those centerlock wheels.

Absolutely sick Porsche 917 racecar…driven in.

I promised myself I’d NEVER own another yellow car, but this Superleggera pulls it off so nicely 🙂

Shoutout to my homie Larry for scaring the sh*t out of me by almost running me over to say goodbye LOL. I should’ve let it happen, I’d be driving the Superleggera above 🙂 …in pain, but driving!

Hopefully this updating thing will become regular…LOL.

Finally an update…how about the Sesto Elemento? Lamborghini Newport Beach Grand Opening…

It’s been quite a while since my last update – lots of things going on in my life personally, so I apologize for being away. Life always finds a way of keeping you in check and we all know, family comes first. Now that things have somewhat stabilized, it’s back to the normally scheduled programming – CARS. Lamborghini Newport Beach had their “formal” Grand re-opening tonight, hosting a party at their new location (formerly Ferrari/Maserati service). To top it off, “The Fonz” (ask me how we gave him that nickname later) aka CEO Stephan Winkleman showed up and brought along with him the Sesto Elemento, Lamborghini’s crazy full carbon fiber concept car. Only 20 built at 2.2M last I heard. My sales manager @LamboNB Brighton was able to put me on the list even though I failed to RSVP until the day before the event – thanks Brighton!

On to the pics…I’ll try and keep the talking to a minimum.

As mentioned – the entire car is pretty much carbon fiber, drool on these CF wheels with centerlocks.

Beautiful door – CF for days.

Checkout that rear…seriously, focus guys. Someone get that lady a wide angle lens.

For those of you who can’t focus, BOOM.

They had programmed lighting that changed – looks so sinister with the red.

Filler’ up.

Money shot. The car design in person is more balanced than in the pictures I’ve seen.

Checkout those seats…well, the indents into the cabin LOL. Pick your own padding!

Tighter shot to give you an idea of what it’s like to live in Carbon Fiber heaven.

View of the Sesto that pretty much any car will see…0-60 in 2.4 seconds.

Been quite some time since my last update, hopefully it was worth the wait!!

Cars & Coffee 6.30.12

Hope everyone has a safe and fun 4th. I still have to writeup our Palomar run, but in the meantime here’s some pics from last weeks C&C.

///M3 Sedan BBS Bros. CH-R on left, LM-R on right.

Ferrari FF in Red, I prefer Black personally but who cares – it’s a Ferrari! LOL.

Pietro and the boyz brought out 7 McLaren MP4-12c’s – UK Goodness. Be sure to checkout their FB page – McLaren Newport Beach.

The doors go up…you know the rest LOL.

Nice old school E30 ///M3 – shout out to my boyz Mariano and Doug, hope all is well with you guys.

BMW’s answer to the CLS – GranSport Coupe? Can’t remember the name off hand. Looks good, even in Matte PooPoo color.

Possibly the last shot of Biggie – RJ’s Vorsteiner 7 series. RJ, go with the MP4 homie…#YOLO LOL.

Old dude stuntin on the young folks, cruising out with the doors up Lambo style before there were Lambos. Fitty ain’t got nothing on this guy. #HAM

Sick outlaw 356 Porsche- the homie Pat’s next ride after he finishes the first RWB 993 Targa (COUGH COUGH)

Varis goodness from Ed Lin’s ride ///Megan (not the cheesy import brand, pretty sure it’s for Megan Fox LOL)

Catch you guys next week. Once I can get some video footage edited, I’ll be adding some fun clips with the homies. Till next time – drive safe.
